.We all have stories and Shiloh started out like many others.
It started with a Bible study group in February 1998, which turned into a regular Sunday church meeting in September 1998.

Of course this could not have happened without prayer, lots of it, committed people, and the support of Redwood Covenant Church. We met in the Windsor Middle School each Sunday with small groups happening in homes during the week. But the prayer continued and soon we discovered that God was changing the direction of where we thought we were heading.

And so the story continued. We realized that maybe what God was asking us to do and be was something that ordinary people do…everyday. We started to listen to everyone else’s story as we served hotdogs on Tuesdays. Then we listened some more when we met folks who needed to learn English and others who wanted to learn Spanish and in response set up a time to learn from each other. And soon we found the stories were about ordinary people doing extraordinary things . . . because of God. We saw people at Shiloh serving other people all around Windsor. And it didn’t matter if the people being served went to Shiloh on Sundays, or if they went to another church, or even if they didn’t go to church. Because we soon discovered it wasn’t about church. It is about people who have real-life needs that happen everyday, at all times, everywhere.

We sometimes use the word “incarnational” to describe ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Incarnational means to climb into the shoes or skin of someone else and become them. You see, that is what Jesus did. He was God climbing into the skin of man and in doing so, became both fully God and fully man. He could walk and talk, feed, heal, pray, listen, teach and love all the other people around him. The Message translation of the Bible memorably describes this incarnation of Jesus.

”The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” (John 1:14)

Jesus asks us to do the same. We are an incarnational faith community who walks with Jesus living in us so that we can walk, talk, feed, pray, listen, teach and love all the other people in Sonoma County.

Now we would like to hear your story, because chances are whatever your story is you may be surprised to find that God is interested in being a part of that… and so would we.
